There is one house and a few ways into it. Whichever suits you, the welcome is the same, and the fees are stated plainly. New members are taken in small intakes.

Apply through the short form, or be nominated by a current member. Either way is welcome, and neither counts for more than the other.

The membership committee meets each month to read the applications together. Your note is read; your CV is not the point.

If the house is full, your application joins the waiting list and is considered as places come free. Whatever the answer, you’ll hear from us either way.

On the waiting list
New members are taken in small intakes, so the house stays the size it should be. When it is full, applications join a waiting list and are considered as places come free. There is nothing to do while you wait but wait; we’ll write when there’s news.

Full membership
$1,800 / year
Full use of the house, the dining room and the bar; bring up to three guests; priority for members’ events and private hire.
$400 joining fee
Under 30
$900 / year
For members under thirty. Everything in Full membership at half the annual fee.

Out of town
$1,100 / year
For members who live more than 50 miles away. Full use of the house on visits, and the bedrooms at members’ rates.
$400 joining fee
Weekday desk
$1,200 / year
The members’ workroom on weekdays, with the bar and lunch. A quiet way to belong for people who mostly come to work.
