About Thornmere
THE STORY

Thornmere began when a few people who worked alone wanted somewhere to work together, and to stay for dinner.
So they took a Georgian town house at No. 9 Calder Row, in the old quarter, and opened the doors in 2021.
It is one house, run for its members — writers, designers, founders, makers, and anyone who makes things and likes good company.
It is not a chain, a hotel or a brand with other branches. It is one house, and it means to stay that size.
THE HOUSE

The house
A Georgian town house a few minutes from the station: a bar on the ground floor, a dining room, a room to work in, the quietest reading room in the old quarter, and six small bedrooms above. Nothing grand, everything considered. The kind of place that feels like a well-made book.
THE COMMITTEE

The committee
The house is run by a small committee of members, elected to look after it on everyone’s behalf. Four roles carry the work.
Chair
Holds the whole together, and keeps the house true to why it began.
Membership Secretary
Reads every application, writes back, and looks after new members.
House Secretary
Runs the day of the house, and arranges private hire.
Treasurer
Keeps the books, so the fees stay plain and the house stays sound.
